Details

3 days, 3 sports - backpacking, cycling, kayaking

A Great Outdoors 3-way adventure during one of the best seasons on the central coast! 15 lucky participants will enjoy a quintessential Santa Barbara excursion, experiencing the breadth of natural beauty offered by Santa Barbara County.

IMPORTANT: This trip will be moderate to strenuous and requires intermediate to advanced skill... level and is NOT appropriate for anyone who is a novice or beginner in any one of the three sports.

- ITINERARY -

Friday, Oct. 7th
We arrive at Rancho Oso in the Santa Ynez Valley for a covered wagon campout with a night of campfire songs and smores. These enchanting tent covered wagons, circled around a large stone fire pit, offer a unique and charming beginning to an unforgettable adventure.

Saturday, Oct. 8th - 1st Leg (Backpacking)
The first leg of our adventure will explore the backside of the Santa Ynez Mountain range, away from the beaches and the city noise. Our ambitious trail will lead us approximately 10 miles up the Santa Ynez River Canyon, from Red Rock past Gibraltar Reservoir and the Sunbird Mine to Forbush Flat Campground where we will camp under the stars just over the hill from the city lights of Santa Barbara.

Sunday, Oct. 9th - 2nd Leg (Cycling)
An additional 2 miles of backpacking up to East Camino Cielo will start the second day. At the crest we will be welcomed by a waiting van to swap our packs for our bikes. For the rest of the morning, we will enjoy spectacular coastline views as we cycle a dramatic hour long decent on paved droads into Santa Barbara. After a lunch break in the rose garden of the iconic Santa Barbara Mission we will continue through town and south along the Coastal Route to Carpinteria State Beach Campground.

Monday, Oct. 10th - 3rd Leg (Tandem Kayaking)
On the final leg we will enjoy a completely different perspective of the majestic coastline as we paddle back up to Santa Barbara. After 3 days of adventure, nothing could be more appropriate than to finish our long weekend with a quintessential Sunset Happy Hour at the Santa Barbara Harbor.
