Details
Howdy Folks! I'm leading a short backpack for the Sierra Club next weekend, Mar 5-6. You don't need to be a Sierra Club member to attend; everyone is welcome. Carey's Castle is one of Joshua Tree's mysteries; the cave-castle and mine of a desert prospector. We will backpack in and make camp at 1.2 miles, then continue up multiple canyons 6mi RT 1300' gain to Carey's Castle. The entire hike is off-trail and will include a tiny bit of class 3 rock scrambling .. mostly just hiking up canyon washes. After finding the 'Castle', we'll head back to camp and have a shared snacks and refreshments happy-hour. Sunday morning we'll break camp and head back to cars. Bring 10 essentials, 4-6 liters of water (dry camp), lug sole boots, layered clothing.
NOTE: This is a great 'beginner' backpack. Contact me or 'sign-up' if you have any questions.
