Are you planning on a super Christmas? The better you think it will be, the more you need this trip! Lay all those gifts aside (unless it's winter gear!) and join some like-minded GO friends to burn off those holiday calories and take in some beautiful winter scenery in Franconia Notch.  And if you're counting, this hike has the potential to add two more peaks to your "4000 footers done" list - North and South Kinsman.  The basic plan is to reach North Kinsman via the Lonesome Lake and Fishin' Jimmy trails, which entails 8 miles of hiking (round trip) and 2700' of elevation gain.  Depending on conditions, this will take 6-7 hours to complete, and will give us great scenery and views at Lonesome Lake and as we ascend the Kinsmans.  If we make good time and are up for it, we will do a short 1.8 mile round trip from North to South Kinsman (amazing views) and back, adding 600' of vertical and another 1.5 hours to the day.  Afterwards, we'll warm up and celebrate our accomplishment at a local eatery.  Be prepared for full winter conditions (no, hopefully not at the restaurant) - check out the winter day hike gear list via the "Gear List" link at the foot of this page.  Full crampons will be especially important for tackling a steep section of the Fishin' Jimmy Trail. If you don't yet own crampons, feel free to contact me for advice.
