Arroyo Seco River Hike

Arroyo Seco River Gorge: hiking, backpacking, camping, swimming; all this without clothes

Details

We have max number of participants. Leave name if interested for stand-by.

This is a nude hike. Leave your cares and clothes behind (and your cell phones no service)and for three days and two nights experience the Shangri-La arua of the Arroyo Seco river.

This is an adventure like few others. The river is the trail. For ten miles, the Arroyo Seco winds through a steep narrow canyon. To explore it, there is no better route than right down the middle of the river. This means a lot of swimming, a lot of ankle, hip, and chest-deep wading, and a whole lot of boulder hopping. The days can easily be past the century mark while the nights get down to the fifities. Water temps range from high 60's in the morning to mid 70's during the afternoon hours.

A quick list of gear include but not limited to: shoulder strap dry bag ( bill's bag 2.2), sleeping bag (no tent; cowboy camp), stout walking stick, shoes ( no sandals or tevas ), food and snacks for three days. light weight camp stove to boil water and prepare food. water filtration. polarized sun glasses, sunblock ( includes a hat), personal hygene items

a set of shorts and shirts for when we return to the clothing world.

Pack light , all trash is to be carried out.

I have organized this hike five others times. Bring a sense of adventure.

Directions

Cooperation with carpooling is neccesary for this to work. We meet at Arroyo Seco campgrounds which is 15 miles west of Greenfield, Ca. at the end of county rd G16(aka Arroyo Seco road). Greenfield is along the 101 in the Salinas Valley, 2 hours north of San Luis Opispo.

From there we leave some cars behind ( we'll need them to get back to the trailhead) and drive( 1 1/2 hour) to the trail head near Escondido campground. To get to Escondido we to go through Fort Hunter-Ligett, which means proof of insurance and -to-date registration must be furnished.

This is much easier to do than it reads.
