Kayaking the Quinnie

Spring Kayaking on the Quinne.

Details

Come join me for this 5th annual spring kayaking event. The exact sectionof the river we will run will be determined on Wed. April 7th and is dependent on water level at the time. The trip will be about 4 hours long, you can expect that the water will be running fast, but it will not be whitewater, other than some short mild class one rapids. One section is meandering river flowing into West Thompson Lake which will be the section we run if the water level is low, the other possible section is all river and starts in Downtown Putnam and ends in Pomfret Landing.

Directions

Thopmson and Putnam are located in North East CT, just off of I-395. The northern end of I-395 is in Auburn at the intersection of the Mass Pike and I-290. Thopmson will be a 20 minute ride from Auburn and Putnam will be a 30 minute ride. The specific meeting location will be emailed on April 7th to everyone who signs up.

The forecast for Saturday looks good, the water flow is really good right now and looks to be that way for the next 5-6 days. So... We will be running the river from Rt. 14 in Canterbury down to Aspinook Pond in Jewitt City. We will meet at the Park N' Ride at Exit 88 off of I-395 in Plainfield. We will then caravan to the put in site and shuttle the cars to the take out.
The park n' ride is on the west side of the highway in between the ramp and the highway. If you are coming south on I-395 you will need to turn left (east) to get to the lot. Meeting time is 10:30 AM. Bring lunch and drinks as there is nothing along the river to shop at. Expect the run to take 3-4 hours.
